Better days for the Horn of Africa...

It has been a while since i wrote, reason being many becauses which were unavoidable but all is good stuff. Following my posts on the situation facing the horn of Africa, starvation, i am grateful to God and to the friends who have been praying and sending kind notes and emails.

I must say that things are definitely looking up for the people affected which include at least 4 million people from Kenya's North Eastern Province and another staggering 8 million plus people from Somali, with people from all corners of the world coming together to help. Most of the Somalis are trying to move into the Kenya border in search of food and water, with Kenyan refugee camps already having more than they can handle. Kenyans for Kenya aid group has so far managed to raise close to KES 500M which is more than a great start!!!

Yesterday, Save the Children UK, a world non-governmental organisation took a step further with launching a campaign together with  Rita Marley, dubbed the Bob Marley Campaign East Africa where celebrities world wide have come together to help this cause. The harsh tag on twitter is #beafriend . I therefore felt that with hope you can achieve almost anything but with faith you can be assured you will achieve the impossible.

The images below depict horn of Africa without the drought and maybe what it can and will be after this devastating period.....

Horn of Africa Horror; The worst in 60 years! Part 2

Today we woke up to hundreds of able Kenyans raising funds worth over 30 million Kenya Shillings ( approx US$ 350,000)! In the midst of all that is happening i am glad to say that we love each other and that as a country we can pull through this difficult time.

Following my blog post Horn of Africa Horror friends have been emailing me and sending comments, and i want to sincerely say thank you all. I particularly would like to say Asante sana which means thank you in Swahili to Karen Kyle Ericson of  Hope Faith & Life as she posted this heart filled prayer that has touched my soul so much, that i am out of words to express how i feel.....Here is what she wrote,

"My friend Murugi from Her World has asked for prayers for the horn of Africa- Ethiopia, Somalia, and parts of Kenya.  They are experiencing a devastating drought.  Feel free to pray with me if you like.

Dear Heavenly Father I lift up those in Africa who are suffering from the drought.  Please send rain and hope to these people. I pray You will be present with them and send in workers who can help them.  Comfort those who mourn and bring food to those who are starving.  Nothing is impossible for You.  You control the weather.  Let Your light shine on those who feel forsaken.

In Jesus Name, Amen."

Please keep praying and helping out as much as you can if you are in Kenya or anywhere in the region. I understand some  may not be able to send donations or help out due to geographical reasons but here is my request, in which ever part of the world you are today, try and help someone in need. It could be a neighbour, a homeless person on the street or a dirty beggar, this way we will still be making the world a better place to be in.

PS: For Kenyans in the diaspora who would like to help and aid the situation, the can contact the Kenyans For Kenya organisation on twitter @kenyans4kenya or send in donations to;

Horn of Africa Horror; The worst in 60 years!

Ever since i stared this blog, i have tried to write the most positive articles about Africa. Maybe i am driven by the fact that i want to believe that Africa is a wonderful place and that someday people will see its good and not its sad sobby stories or corruption and terrorism stories. Unfortunately today i get to share one of the sad sobby stories...

The Horn of Africa, Somalia, Ethiopia and Part of Kenya, thousands of people stare death in its eyes because of starvation. Famine has once again eruppted with the UN declaring its as the worst drought situation in the past 60 years! If you think that this is scary then this will terrify you.The situation is so bad that a policeman found two children suckling a mother who was already dead due to starvation. It is so bad that women are forced to pick which of their children is strong enough to walk to the refugee camps where they can get food and those (children) that are not strong enough.....left by the roadside to die!

I write this blog as i solemnly wipe, to the thousands who never planned to be born in these drought stricken areas, but somehow found themselves in the heart rendering circumstances. I appeal to all Kenyans to donate what they can with all the means possible, through organisations such us the Red Cross Society and the Kenyans for Kenya aid. I also request for prayers that God may deliver these people through this extrely difficult time.
