HER LIFESTYLE: Meet Emmie Kio

Meet Emmie Kio, an agricultural writer and an urban farmer, one who is interested in social media, food security and agriculture. Her addictions are swimming, nature, motorbikes, litchis  and a good laugh. Well, lets hear more from this bright, fun loving Agribusiness Management graduate!

1. Tell us more about you and why you decided to have a blog? A more elaborate explanation is in the about page of my blog.

2. Which is the best destination you have ever visited? South America, Uruguay to be specific.  I would love to go back there and never return again :-)  I love the friendly nature of the people there which makes you feel at home even when you don't know a thing of what they are saying to you in Spanish. We went on a field trip and there was this cup i was seeing with everyone called Mate (Pronounced as Mah-teeh). One guy let me and my friend Bridgit taste its contents and in the end he souvenir-d me the Yerba Mate cup :-) Plus you live life there like there is no tomorrow.

3. Which is your favourite restaurant in Kenya? That's a tricky question. Can i actually name three?
a) Fairmount The Norfolk. This is one of the hotels where you get treated like a queen literally. The hotel staff have good public relations with the residents. It shocks me that you meet a staff on the hallway and knows your name, meet another one some blocks away and they know you too.It feels kinda great. Plus the food is great too.
b) Turtle Bay Watamu: Here is where a dream holiday gets fulfilled. Good food, good service, turtle conservation in play....and much more fun plus relaxation
c) Although they are now closed Indian Ocean Beach Resort. Actually at times their food wasn’t great but two people made me like coming back to the place. Some lady at the reception called Lucy; she has a big heart of gold and very excellent at public relations and Nassoro; one of the food attendants. This guy serves you like a queen which is quite rare to see in some coastal hotels, where the attendant’s service is biased towards the resident people.

4. Which / where is your dream holiday destination? Any country I have not been to works best as a holiday destination.  I like to discover new things every now and then.

5. What do you like most about traveling? The communing with nature. Put religion aside, nature is one thing that convinces me that indeed there is a supreme being. Interacting with new people, sharing new thoughts seeing new places just expands my mind. Fixing stuff, you get to learn to do things on your own at times especially in the wild travel scenarios. What do you dislike most about traveling? Definitely packing my bags. I do a week prior but still forget to carry some stuff. Didn’t nobody discover an app for this? Also your bags getting lost. It disorients you totally!

6. What / which gadgets do you NEVER miss to pack in your travel bag? A toothbrush/toothpaste, Clean pairs of undies, Binoculars, A book, Music, A map, Rosary, comfortable pair of boots and a field guide for birds in the area in question.

7. What is more of a romantic getaway for you, Beach or Safari? Having lived a better portion of my life in the coastal area, the beach does it for me. There are endless romantic things can do there compared to the safari.

8. Tell us 3 things about you that we do not know? I find love and happiness in things that people despise/take for granted like farming and bird watching, am a soon to be lifeguard, am head on heels with motorbikes and i have no favourite meal. Anything palatable does it for me!

9. What travel tips do you have for "Her World" as she trots around Kenya and the globe? Travel! Travel! Travel both in the country and out of the country. And just like Aldous Huxley once said, to travel is to discover that one is wrong about other countries.

Her Lifestyle: Meet Maryanne Waweru - Wanyama from Mummy Tales

I had a chat with Maryanne of Mummy Tales Blog, which is one of my all time favourite blog because of all the stuff you learn about motherhood. For most women this is a chapter in life which is ..... (I have no words to describe it)!! So here at Her world, it is time we got to know a little bit more about the lady who has become a source of advice for many women....

1. Tell us more about your blog and why you decided to write about motherhood

My blog is about my day to day experiences as a mom – both good and bad. I decided to write about motherhood because there are so many experiences to narrate about this journey and being a writer, this is the best way that I could capture them. Mummy Tales is my diary, a journal that I will look back on together with my family in future years and reminisce those moments.

But besides sharing my experiences, I also hope to educate and inform other moms on different issues that affect us. I hope they can learn from my experiences and from the resources that I use in my posts. I have also learnt a lot from other moms who give me feedback and guide me on different issues as I build my family.

So my blog is not just about me – it’s a community.
Maryanne 4 months pregnant... aint this just sweet.:)
2. Which is the best destination you have ever visited? Why?
It’s got to be Mauritius.
I loved it because I found the beaches so pristine and inviting and the country so relaxed and easy. We (hubby and I) also had a good experience driving through the entire country on smooth roads while sampling the various tourist attractions. I was four months pregnant then and I totally enjoyed our weeklong stay there.
3. Which is your favorite restaurant in Kenya? Why?

Indigo Spice in Westlands. I love its alluring ambience and their lovely food. I also enjoy the warm hospitality given each time I’m there.

4. Which / where is your dream holiday destination? Why?

Somewhere in the Caribbean islands. I think being in a different continent and taking in the scenery while enjoying the experience of a different culture will be a surreal moment for me.

5. What do you like most about traveling? What do you dislike most about traveling?

Being to a different place with new experiences is always welcome for me as in this rat race, life can be routine and sometimes dreary. So it is the experiencing new things from my everyday environment that gives me so much satisfaction.

What I dislike – the travel itself! I don’t like the journey much –whether by road or by air and I’m always very impatient as I just can’t wait to get there already so that I can start enjoying myself. I find travelling so confining, tiring and endless and I don’t like that at all.

6. What / which gadgets do you NEVER miss to pack in your travel bag?
My camera, a notebook and a pen. Because anything can happen at anytime. I’m a journalist.

7. What is more of a romantic getaway for you, Beach or Safari?
Beach definitely. So that I can laze around in the sun all day.

8. Tell us 3 things about you that your blog doesn't?
I hate travel by water. But if I really must, I’ll sit somewhere where I’ll stay fixated until we get to our destination, all the while praying hard and afraid of looking into the water.
-       I’m just not a movie person. I find it hard to stay still and watch a movie till the end. On the times that I find myself watching one (once in five years), I prefer fast forwarding and quickly seeing what will happen next.
-       I love writing. I could write forever.

9. What travel tips do you have for "Her World" as she trots around Kenya and globe?
Enjoy the moments and capture them all.

Fogo Gaucho, it’s a Brazilian Steak House, love their salad and meat platters.

Which / where is you dream holiday destination? Why?
St. Barts…it’s in the Caribbean and they have beautiful beaches!

What do you like most about traveling? What do you dislike most about traveling?

My phones, my laptop and a camera!

What is more of a romantic getaway for you, Beach or Safari?

January Journey!

Happy New year!

This is my first post this year so I am mega excited! I have missed blogging so much and my blogger family even more. I had planned to take a 2 weeks leave from blogging but ended up taking close to four weeks!I know that's a really long time, but i needed to spend time away from my laptop and more time with family!

 During the time I spent away from the blog, I came up with some new ideas to make me and you love the blog even more and to kick off those ideas, I have introduced two new segments;

(a) Her Gadgets which is a segment that will discuss gadgets that are a must have when you are travelling or simply, gadgets that make your traveling experience smooth and easy.

(b) Her Lifestyle which is a segment that pretty much talks about travel lifestyles, celebrity vacations etc It is a place where I will be able to rant on and on about... pretty much ,everything!

I am considering to add two more segments on the blog, I am still thinking about it and soon will let you know how it goes. However, if you have any ideas that you think I should consider, please let me know. I also plan on hosting guest bloggers, so come on blogger family, tell me those travel stories and we shall share them with the world!

My 2012 blogging journey starts today and as is tradition to make and work a new year resolution, my new year resolution is to visit as many blogs as possible per day! What are your resolutions, where do you plan to travel, where did you you travel, what did you experience? Take us through that journey, we would love to hear about it!
