I always thought this creature was outstanding especially with all the bright colours that they have however, what seemed to amaze me even more was the fact that if you were to remove the Starfish from the water the colour would change. Meaning while in water, being alive gave it some sought of life thus the living bright colour, but once it was out of the water and dried in the sun...well it would loose the colour.
Facts:
- There are over 1800 Starfish species discovered and many more waiting to be discovered.
- They feed on mollusks such as calms, oysters, some snails or any other animal too slow to avoid the attack,or simply decomposed animal and plant material.
- They have no brains, literary!
I used to love starfish as a kid. We'd find them on the beach and try tossing them back in the water to keep them alive. The most amazing thing about them, though, is their awesome ability to regenerate!
ReplyDeleteStarfish are so cool. The one in the second pic looks like it's exercising. This makes me think of a story that came out a few days ago - 12 new species of frog have just been discovered in India. God's creativity never runs dry!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! Certainly different from the ones I have seen that have been dried out in the sun!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pics! I love starfish. Thanks for teaching me something new.

Thanks for this- and I love the "beauty without brains" comment : ) I think way too much.
